Rocky busted into my life as a under 2 recent gelding. He was full of spit & fury when he was abused by a transport company. He arrived and busted off the trailer, breaking the drivers hand. The driver had nothing nice to say about this young horse that was now running on 9 acres in the high Rocky Mountains. After hours of calm sitting and coaxing from a teenage daughter and I to lure him into a stall where he immediately coward in the corner. There were severe ligature marks around his neck, he carried his head off to the side, he struggled with straight movement and eventually became depressed.
This became my first horse, a spirit guide that took me on an amazing journey of healing, hope and guidance. We both had much healing to work through, both with spinal injuries (Rocky had the first 2 vertebrae in his pole area completely rotated, I had partial paralyzation in one lower side from bone on bone of 2 vertebrae from gymnastics injuries), emotional trauma, physical trauma and trust issues.
Oh what a journey we have had together~a dream of a lifetime in a friend and companion that made my life complete.
In July 2021, my Spirit Horse Rocky was attacked by a horse who broke his leg just below the shoulder. Tragically Rocky died. To honor my best friend whom the ancestors sent to me in 2012, I have created the Spirit Horse Collection. I hope to capture the emotions and spirit of this amazing horse. As I remember the journey we walked together, I will create many pieces of artwork inspired by Rocky.
The Study of Eyes in B&W shows the depth of his connection, the beauty & peace he brought into my life. He busted into my life as my Elk Guide was walking out of my life, a gift my ancestors provided as I was leaving my refuge at the Native American Vision Quest site.
He is missed everyday.
